Charo followed Physics Sciences studies at the University, but after three years she was unexpectedly engaged by a new contemporary dance company- one of the first in Madrid at that time - and her professional future was decided.
End 1986, Wim Vandekeybus made an audition in Madrid looking for young Spanish dancers for his first show “What the body does not remember”. She joined the Ultima Vez Company and moved to Brussels, the city where she lives since then.
In 1992, Charo decided to stop dancing and make music. She had studied singing and music theory and belonged to several rock groups in the early 80s. She re-started making experiments with her voice as well as with field recordings and all kinds of sound devices and later joined the Electro Acoustic Composition Course at the Conservatorium in Brussels, getting graduated in 1999.
Since then, she has been active as a composer and sound designer for dance, theatre, cinema and multimedia. Charo has worked with the most important companies and directors in Belgium and also collaborated in alternative projects and research labs around Europe. She’s a teacher at RITS Erasmus School of Arts and at Mons Conservatorium.
